Recognition of Foreign Credentials

Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) has a Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) program that helps internationally trained workers make a smoother transition into the Canadian workforce

The Ontario Ministry of Education has an online Guide for Foreign-Trained Trades people that explains which trades require certification and helps trades people to get recognition of their foreign qualifications and experience

You can work toward obtaining Canadian credentials through Algonquin Collegeís Integrating Immigrants to Employment (CIITE) program. CIITE helps internationally trained immigrants get training and/or upgrade their skills for entry into the Canadian workforce.
Ontario Immigration has information about recognized trades and regulated professions that may be of help to you when you arrive in Canada
The Ontario Network for International Professionals (ONIP) provides licensing and employment information for internationally trained engineers, accountants, teachers and health care professionals
Algonquin College offers a Settlement to Employment Program (STEP) that provides internationally trained workers with the support, training and experience needed to find employment in Canada
World Education Services (WES) converts educational credentials from any country in the world into a Canadian equivalent. It describes each certificate, diploma or degree that you have earned as well as their academic equivalency in Canada.

The Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks measures second-language proficiency of adult immigrants and prospective immigrants

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC), a government-run program that offers free language assessments and training referrals for adult permanent residents. You can start by contacting the Ottawa branch of LINC, the YMCA-YWCA Language Assessment and Resource Centre.
